PEM Moon Bunny Netsuke Chocolates - Gift Box
Japanese legend tells the story of the “bunny in the moon,” a symbol of perseverance and devotion. Representations of rabbits are a popular subject in Japanese art, especially for carved netsuke. Typically made of ivory, bone or wood, netsuke are small, often ornately carved toggles designed to attach small objects to the sash worn with a kimono. This chocolate bunny is based on a whimsically carved netsuke of a rabbit in the Peabody Essex Museum’s Japanese art collection. Each gift box holds 12 delicious chocolates!
Naitō Toyomasa (1773–1856), Netsuke in the form of a rabbit, 19th century. Ivory. Gift of E.G. Stillman, 1947. E26721, Peabody Essex Museum.
