About the original work: Empress Xiaomu, Daoguang period, 1850 Xiaomu (d. 1808) (pronounced see-ow mu), the first wife of the Daoguang emperor, sits on the golden phoenix throne and wears a yellow court robe with a long, dark blue vest adorned with dragons. This setting and her attire suggest formal occasions, such as palace assemblies, and convey her status as the imperial wife of the highest rank. Although she died twelve years before her husband became the emperor, she was posthumously granted the title of empress and revered after her death.
