Conquerors: How Portugal Forged the First Global Empire

$32

From New York Times bestselling author Roger Crowley comes the epic saga of Portugal's rise from a small, poor nation to a global maritime superpower. Through letters and eyewitness accounts, Crowley chronicles how Portuguese explorers—including Vasco da Gama and Afonso de Albuquerque—discovered the sea route to India, dominated the spice trade, and established the first long-range maritime empire. Their ambition to eradicate Islamic culture and monopolize trade reshaped the world order and set globalization in motion. A gripping account of the personalities, conquests, and human costs behind Portugal's century of supremacy.
