Rare Bird of Fashion: The Irreverent Iris Apfel
Fashion icon Iris Apfel is the star of this gorgeously photographed book paying homage to Apfel's idiosyncratic and eclectic personal style. Now in her 96th year, Apfel has inspired bold developments in the fashion industry by combining genres, colors, textures, and patterns in her own highly spirited sense of fashion. Named to Vanity Fair magazine's International Best-Dressed List in 2008, Apfel continues to be a fashion trendsetter.
Rare Bird of Fashion: The Irreverent Iris Apfel presents more than 90 spectacular color plates photographed by highly acclaimed fashion photographer Eric Boman. Displaying a selection of extraordinary outfits, styled by Apfel as she would wear them, this lavish book highlights Apfel's unexpected wardrobe combinations. With an introduction by style celebrity Howard Koda, this must-have book for the fashionista provides detailed captions for the outfits describing each element of the ensembles, including their designers, fabrics, and accessories.
Creatively combining haute couture with flea market finds, Apfel gives us all the courage to feel free to experiment with fashion and embrace our individual styles. Presenting more than 80 dramatic ensembles from Apfel's personal collections, PEM hosts an exhibition dedicated to this remarkable woman.
The exhibition Iris Apfel: Rare Bird of Fashion was on view at PEM from October 17, 2009 through February 7, 2010.
