Hocus Pocus Re-creation
This rendering of PEM's historic Ropes Mansion resembles how it appeared in the classic 1993 Film.
Movie watchers may recall the brief scene of Max and his sister Dani sitting on hay bales in front of the house before joining Allison's Halloween party inside.
Fueled by the affection many have for the movie, the 1727 Colonial Revival home on Essex Street is a popular stop for visitors to Salem.
The stately Ropes Mansion was home to four generations of the Ropes family and is recognized as one of New England's most significant and thoroughly documented historic houses. Filled with the original furnishings, this Georgian Colonial house, which was reinvented as a Colonial Revival mansion at the end of the 19th century, contains superb examples of the 18th and 19th century furniture, ceramics and glass, silver, kitchen wares, textiles and personal objects. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
"Salem has a uniquely rich architectural heritage. Every major American architectural style is represented within its borders."
Now you can tour PEM's historic homes from your own home! The museum's physical campus includes three city blocks and several off-site properties. We have collaborated with Cats Meow Village to recreate the museum's historic houses in their signature style. On the back of each is a brief description of the house and a QR code that will link to the PEM Walks tour, where you can find out more about the home's architectural history.
The Ropes Mansion is part of the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, Massachusetts.
The back includes a Take the Salem Witch Trials Walk QR code that gives you an audio tour.. You can scan at home and listen, too!
We handcraft the Ropes Mansion in 3/4" thick wood with colorful details on the front and history on the back. H4.50 x W5.25 inches.
