Birds at Rest: The Behavior and Ecology of Avian Sleep

$35

Birds at Rest explores how birds sleep, roost, and rest across the globe—from brief half-awake naps to long torpor states and even mid-flight slumber. Combining cutting-edge neuroscience with timeless observations from Audubon, Wallace, and Roosevelt, this book reveals how sleep strategies vary by species and season, offering protection, mating opportunities, and survival benefits. Illustrated by Margaret La Farge, it also addresses how artificial light, noise, invasive species, and climate change disrupt avian rest, with practical solutions for supporting bird populations.
