Farwell's Rules of the Nautical Road 9th Ed
For nearly eighty years, this venerable book has been viewed as the indispensable collision law reference work, serving both professional mariners and maritime attorneys by providing detailed explanatory commentary on the rules of the road and thorough analysis of numerous collision cases in which courts construed and applied those rules. This ninth edition includes updated coverage of the rules by incorporating previous amendments to both the 1972 COLREGS and the U.S. Inland Rules, analyzes several well-publicized collisions that occurred since publication of the eight edition, updates the materials on the look-outs and risk of collision responsibilities, and address integrated bridge systems, automatic identification systems, voyage data recorders, and the increasingly "active" role of VTS.
This new edition covers the watchstander qualifications and requirements imposed by the STCW Convention and Code, the SOLAS Convention, and current U.S. Navy and U.S. Coast Guard directives, and the International Maritime Organization's ongoing regulatory scoping project that examines issues raised by introduction of Maritime Autonomous Surface Ships (MASS). It also notes as-yet unanswered COLREGS compliance challenges those vessels face.
