Netsuke or toggles have captured the imagination of collectors for centuries. Reproduction netsuke from our Japanese collection at PEM.
Rabbit: People born in the year of the rabbit are conservative and financially lucky. They make good gamblers for they have the gift of choosing correctly. 1.375 x 1 x 1.12
Dog with Her Puppy: Dogs are known for the ease with which they give birth, and a netsuke of a dog, especially with a puppy, can represent a wish for an easy childbirth. 2 x 1.375 x 1.25
Bag of Grain with Rats: Rats are a symbol of fertility and wealth, an emblem of good luck, and a companion to the god of prosperity. Daikoku (one of the Seven Gods of Good Fortune). 1.5 x 1.5 x 1.5
Cat in Robe: This whimsical netsuke is a graceful cat disguised as a woman. In some Japanese legends, long tailed or two tailed cats can bewitch human beings. 1.18 x .875 x 2.25
Octopus: The octopus presents a dual image: its bald head suggests a priest's shaven head, but its tentacles symbolize a comical amorous embrace. 1.25 x 1 x 1.12
Otafuku: To prepare for the New Year, Otafuku, the goddess of mirth. pours tea and has tossed beans to keep the demons away. Tip her back to see a demon. 1.375 x 1.25 x 1.5

At this time, orders shipped within the United States are shipped using USPS or UPS. Tracking information will be provided via email.

IN STORE PICKUP
For our local customers, we are pleased to offer an In Store Pickup option! How it works:

Shop online at shop.pem.org

At checkout, select Curbside Pickup as your shipping method. Place your order.

Once we have prepared your order, you will receive an email that your order is ready for pickup.

Follow the pickup instructions provided in your email. Arrive at our Store location at 161 Essex Street.
- Orders not picked up within two weeks of order date will be canceled and refunded.
Please Note: Please allow 2-3 days from purchase date for processing. In Store Pickup is available Thursday through Monday 10 am–5 pm.
RETURN & EXCHANGE POLICY
We are pleased to accept returns within 30 days of the purchase date. All returned items must be in their original condition and packaging.
