The Scarlet Letter Tote Bag
This Scarlet Letter tote bag features a prominent quote and the cover design from an 1859 edition of Nathaniel Hawthorne's novel The Scarlet Letter.
Among its collections of several hundred thousand printed items and over a linear mile of archives, PEM's Phillips Library holds over 3,000 volumes by and about Nathaniel Hawthorne &mash; making it perhaps the world's largest repository of material on the author. The A incorporated into the design here is a reproduction of the letter as used on the cover of an 1859 edition of The Scarlet Letter published in London by Charles H. Clarke. Phillips Library's copy of this book was on view in the 2019-2020 PEM exhibition The Creative Legacy of Nathaniel Hawthorne.

Once we have prepared your order, you will receive an email that your order is ready for pickup.

Follow the pickup instructions provided in your email. Arrive at our Store location at 161 Essex Street.
- Orders not picked up within two weeks of order date will be canceled and refunded.
Please Note: Please allow 2-3 days from purchase date for processing. In Store Pickup is available Thursday through Monday 10 am–5 pm.
RETURN & EXCHANGE POLICY
