Yin Yu Tang: Preserving Chinese Vernacular Architecture
Yin Yu Tang: A Chinese Home is the first house brought, in its entirety, from China to the United States. Its conservation and installation at the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, Massachusetts, is a landmark in the history of international preservation. Not only have the building and its contents been preserved as artifacts; Chinese culture has been brought halfway around the world, expanding the opportunities for people in the Western Hemisphere to learn about Chinese architecture, art, and history.
Yin Yu Tang: A Chinese Home is a typical example of a Chinese merchant's house from the second half of the 1700s. With the blessings of the family, the house was moved here as a result of a cultural exchange program between the Peabody Essex Museum and local Chinese county and municipal government authorities.

Once we have prepared your order, you will receive an email that your order is ready for pickup.

Follow the pickup instructions provided in your email. Arrive at our Store location at 161 Essex Street.
- Orders not picked up within two weeks of order date will be canceled and refunded.
Please Note: Please allow 2-3 days from purchase date for processing. In Store Pickup is available Thursday through Monday 10 am–5 pm.
RETURN & EXCHANGE POLICY
We are pleased to accept returns within 30 days of the purchase date. All returned items must be in their original condition and packaging.
